AEP hosted the 2017 AEP State Policy Symposium on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. Continuing the momentum for implementation of the 2020 Action Agenda for Advancing the Arts in Education, this annual event provided an opportunity for national and state-level leaders to roll-up their sleeves and focus on the implications of pressing federal and state education issues for the arts in education. Athletic education provides real life situations in skilled performance in which students learn the importance of working under fire, respecting opponents or competitors, the acceptance of results that are determined by officials or are out of their control and participating fairly or playing the game according to its rules.
Fundamental to the realization of educational objectives is imparting and acquisition of knowledge, prior to this process requires one to have an insight into the nature of knowledge in its different forms and structure, the sources of knowledge and the validation of knowledge itself.
Therefore, we, as educators, cannot only prepare our students with content knowledge, but also are obliged to present an education of teaching and learning about social norms and expectations, cultures, critical thinking, hard work, values and meaning.
Expanding the learning developed in ‘Rethinking Pedagogy 1′, further emphasis on contemporary thinking and methodology is explored, introducing key theorists in the field of critical pedagogy, providing you with key knowledge to support you as you explore and re-position your experience in the field of education.
Aiming to help you rediscover your artistic practice and significantly broaden your understanding of contemporary art concepts, mediums and theoretical debates, this aligns fresh ideas that support and enrich your approaches as facilitator within your own educational experiences.
