With competition rising fiercely for admission into a good undergraduate school and the choice of subjects, school curriculum expanding with it, choosing the best undergraduate school can be confusing. Depending on the program, and level of training desired, most art schools offer 1 month to 2 year certification programs that train in fundamental art/program skills, 2 year associate degrees, or 4 year bachelor’s degrees as a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in liberal arts, or a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in professional programs.
Honorary degrees such as the ones awarded to the Royal Academy of Ghent at the World Exhibition in 1913 and the World Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1925 bore witness to the prestige of the art school as a cultural and national institution.
Since the School assumed operations of the Plaza in July 2011, thousands of community members have rediscovered that the Mexican Heritage Plaza is the ideal location to have a wedding, an intimate meeting, a conference, a family celebration, and any other type of event.
Along its association with the Ghent University, academic networks and specialized journals, the Royal Academy is co-editor of the international art publication A Prior Magazine; it has established the independent exhibition project KIOSK; and it organizes events and workshops in close collaboration with Ghent’s lively art scene, including the Higher Institute of the Arts (HISK) and the city’s Museum of Contemporary Art (S.M.A.K.), all within walking distance of the academy’s premises.
Particular concentrations in the School include Victorian Studies, Translation and Interpreting, the Country House and Heritage, Postcolonial Studies, Early Modern Culture, Film and Media, Art and Architecture, Visual Culture, Modern and Contemporary Literature, Creative Writing, TESOL, and Applied Linguistics and TESOL.
