The Faculty of Arts is home to inspiring, world-renowned academic staff who deliver exceptional research-led teaching in a wide range of subjects across the arts, humanities and modern languages. In 2015 Mr. Davis visited Alabama on a tour arranged by the Southern Literary Trail in partnership with the Mobile Arts Council He played from Blind Tom’s repertoire in Mobile, Tuskegee, and Demopolis and gave a multi-media presentation about Blind Tom’s life.
Arts on Prescription is friendly and welcoming and provides art courses for people who are finding life a little tough: people who are lonely, stressed or not feeling very confident about themselves and also those suffering from anxiety or depression.
Due to changes made by Lancashire County Council and the end of Target Wellbeing funding, Pendle Leisure Trust’s Arts Development Team can no longer provide the project and has expressed great concern over the vulnerable people that will be affected by this.
Now with a clear mandate, and a focus on our culturally rich metropolitan area, there are real opportunities for him to celebrate what is happening at grass-roots level alongside the offer of our bigger cultural players, whilst investing in culture and the arts as social determinants of health and wellbeing, for long-term social change.
Those of us who have departed as a result of the recent restructure – which stems back to the last Government Spending Review and will see an extra £6.5M for Regularly Funded Organisations, with the Arts Council having around 25% less staff – are now all off to pastures new.
