Education & Learning Through The Arts

The research themes and projects of this research cluster demonstrate the interest in the creation, conservation and dissemination of the literary and visual arts and their roles in society as outlined in the framework of the Institute’s research agenda and interests. We will bring expertise to our work, provide plentiful and good quality resources, and plan the learning environment so that children will be enabled to learn within it. While syllabus documents can provide guidelines for content, skills, knowledge, techniques, and outcomes, we must ensure that the children remain at the center of the curriculum and that exploration, discovery, and play remain central to the child’s experience.arts and learning

Unlike the strongest traditions of our field, which have focused heavily on promoting an appreciation of the visual arts of the past, art education from this perspective is concerned with taking a more critical stance and addressing the increasingly difficult challenges of the visual arts in the futureā€ (325).arts and learning

Collaborating universities and departments are: Department of Visual Arts and Sloyd Education at Konstfack University College of Arts, Craft and Design (SWE), Department of Art, Design and Drama at Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Science (NO), School of Art, Design and Architecture at Aalto University – School of Art and Design (FI), Communication and Digital media, in Copenhagen, Department for Communication and Psychology at Aalborg University (DK).

As a third grade teacher she had the children learn spelling words by forming letters with their bodies, forming punctuation marks and expressing the feeling of sentences through movement, learning multiplication by moving in sets of threes and fours, discovering the difference between lunar and solar eclipses through planet dances, and choreographing their way across the Oregon Trail.arts and learning

The dubious choices of administrators who are dealing with legislators, parents, and business leaders as they figure out how to spend their shrinking budgets are only meaningful in that they create a climate of uncertainty, distrust, and marginalization for the arts and arts specialists.
