In 2013, the Standing Council on Health and the Meeting of Cultural Ministers endorsed the National Arts and Health Framework. Students must meet the requirements for entry to both the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Health Sciences courses. The organisation is free to join and offers events, a regular newsletter, training sessions, advice and support for artists, architects, clinical staff and service users – basically anyone with an interest in arts in health.
As the pressure on health resources grows, many are calling for innovative solutions to encourage health promotion and healing. To maintain or improve the health and well-being of vulnerable seniors through their participation in community-engaged arts practices.
In another arena of artistic life, many cultural institutions such as orchestras, art galleries, and cinemas, offer a range of health related outreach programmes,or example orchestras in residence in hospitals and dementia friendly film viewings. I too had special interests in aging and health and I believed it was critical to address quality of life issues for caregivers and older persons.
Participants were interviewed regarding their perceived health status and self-rated health before randomization and at 1 year. Founded in 1960, Americans for the Arts is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts and arts education. The programme – running now for over a decade – provides a substantial Arts and Health programme for patients and is encompassed as the National Centre for Arts and Health.
The festival also wishes to offer an opportunity for an artist to develop their specific skills in relation to working in arts and health settings. This website is a work in progress and hopes to be a resource for anyone interested in arts and health. Celf Gwmpas wishes to engage an individual with knowledge and experience of Arts, Health and Wellbeing to co-ordinate our current projects ‘Reaching Out, Drawing In’ and ‘In Residence’ and to develop our ‘Artist Network’.
